The Long, Slow Goodbye

This cocktail is a study in contrast. Bitter Averna and botanical gin with verdant, fragrant fresh basil. Tart lemon juice with sweet, dark blackberries, and all topped with a spritz of tonic water. A new discovery with each sip.

 

1½  oz. gin
¾ oz. Averna
¾ oz. fresh lemon juice
¼ oz. simple syrup (1:1)
2 large blackberries
2 large basil leaves
Tonic water
Tools: shaker, strainer
Glass: Collins
Garnish: basil leaf

 

Add all ingredients to an ice-filled shaker. Shake and double strain into an ice-filled glass. Top with tonic water and garnish.
