Rethinking pumpkin ales.

These six ales combine the flavorful essence of fall’s favorite gourd with just a dash of pie spices, making for easy autumn drinking that will remind you of trips to the pumpkin patch. From light and approachable to rich and robust, these brews are best sipped alongside the hearty flavors of fall.

Shipyard Brewing Smashed Pumpkin 9% ABV
Pumpkin bread, spicy rye and toasted walnuts—this rich and creamy beer is perfect with savory fall dishes like a nutty farro or roasted vegetable risotto.

Brooklyn Brewing Post Road Pumpkin 5% ABV
Golden amber in color with savory notes of nutmeg, coriander and roasted pumpkin make this ale perfect with an array of stewed meats and veggies.

Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale 6% ABV
A highly quaffable pumpkin beer with loads of nutmeg and ginger spice, not-too-sweet pumpkin pie flavors and a dry, malty finish.

Southern Tier Pumking 7.9% ABV
Just like grandma’s perfect pumpkin pie filling, this imperial ale tastes like dessert in a glass—sweet pumpkin, ground cinnamon and a good dollop of whipped cream.

Dogfish Head Punkin’ Ale 7% ABV
This brown ale is assertive, yet approachable, with caramel and molasses sweetness balanced by roasted pumpkin and lots of cinnamon and nutmeg spice.

Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale
5.9% ABV
Showing the most pumpkin character of all the beers tasted, this Seattle-based brew is ripe with aromas and flavors of fresh pumpkin, honey, ginger and clove.
