The Newark Cocktail

newark cocktail

A riff on the Brooklyn cocktail from the venerable New York bar.

When Jim Meehan and John Deragon came up with this recipe inspired by the Brooklyn cocktail, they figured there were already plenty of drinks named after Brooklyn neighborhoods, so they looked across the Hudson to New Jersey (home of Laird’s) and called it the Newark.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. Laird’s bonded straight apple brandy
  • 1 oz. sweet vermouth
  • 1/4 oz. Fernet Branca
  • 1/4 oz. maraschino liqueur
  • Tools:mixing glass, barspoon, strainer
  • Glass:coupe

Preparation

Combine all the ingredients and stir with ice. Strain into a chilled coupe.
