Mississippi Punch

This cocktail first printed in Jerry Thomas’s The Bon Vivant’s Companion finds its origins somewhere “along the Mississippi,” according to cocktail historian, David Wondrich.

1 1/2 oz. light rum
1 oz. rye or bourbon
1 oz. brandy
1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
1/2 tsp. granulated sugar
1 dash Angostura bitters
Ice cubes
Tools: shaker, strainer
Glass: Collins

Combine all ingredients with ice and shake. Strain over fresh ice into a Collins glass.
