Boukman Daiquiri

Named in homage to Boukman Dutty, the Haitian priest who helped launch the island nation’s revolution in 1791, this modern daiquiri offers a subtle taste of the Caribbean mixed with a hint of Cognac and cinnamon spice.

1 1/2 oz. white rum
1/2 oz. Cognac
3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
3/4 oz. cinnamon syrup (see below)
Ice cubes
Tools: shakers, strainer
Glass: coupe
Garnish: lime wedge

Combine all ingredients and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish.

Cinnamon Syrup
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
4 cinnamon sticks, broken into large pieces

Bring all ingredients to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to medium-low and let simmer for 8-10 minutes until sugar has dissolved, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and let cool. Discard cinnamon sticks, strain into a clean glass jar and cover. Store refrigerated for up to two weeks.
